Details about your Bay Area Family Photo SessionFAQLearn more here about what you need to know to have a great family photo session with Mary Bea Photography.

Where are you located?

I am currently located in San Jose, however I started my business in Mountain View.  Travel fees are imposed for sessions that take place more than 45 miles from San Jose.  I also travel regularly to New York & Chicago, join my newsletter to stay up to date on travel sessions.

How many years have you been in business?

I am entering my 4th year of running my business and what a wild and fun ride it has been!  Some may wonder, is this my full time job and yes, indeed capturing beautiful images of children and families is my full time job and I am very lucky to love what I do.

What should I wear??

Being a lifestyle photographer and someone who truly prides myself on capturing authentic moments I try not to steer this question too much.  The number one thing is that you and your family feel comfortable in what you are wearing, if you’re uncomfortable your images will represent that.  However, there is a lot to be said for having a cohesive look and feel to your images.  So, if that is what you know you are looking for I always recommend one solid base color to be used throughout the outfits, one accent color to be used sparingly with no more than one to two patterns depending on the size of your family.  Also, this is the Bay Area and what is better than layering??  It creates a great depth to your look.  For further information check out my Wardrobe Inspiration Blog posts.

You mentioned that you shoot lifestyle photography, what is that?

Wikipedia has a great answer for that!

How long does a typical session run?

I will always shoot until I know we have a great collection of images.  Depending on the age of your little ones, their attention span usually expires within an hour.  The best feedback I receive (and I hear it a lot) is how fun and painless my photography sessions are, so fear not, we will have tons of fun and you won’t be stuck with me all day, that is unless  you opt for an awesome Day in the Life photo experience!  For more info on those shoot me an e-mail.

Does the same timeframe apply to newborn sessions?

It does not.  Newborn sessions are completely and totally determined by baby and that is fine with me.  I schedule specifically for the unknown in these situations.  The best way to ensure happy babies for a newborn session is to feed right before I am scheduled to arrive and make sure that the heat is cranked so they feel nice and warm even if they are not being swaddled.  These sessions tend to run 1-2 hours but again like I said I will ensure that I shoot as long as it takes to create beautiful images for you and your family.

Where do family & maternity sessions take place?

I often shoot family sessions outdoors at various local parks of which I have many suggestions.  However, I am always excited to learn about new spots too so let’s chat!  Family sessions may also take place in the comfort of your own home and/or backyard, I find that the comfort of your home is often the best location for maternity sessions as well but they can take place anywhere you want.

What do newborn sessions take place?

Newborn sessions take place within the comfort of your home.  I recommend scheduling your newborn session within 7-10 days of birth making capturing beautiful images of you and your growing family all the easier without having to load everyone into the car.

All this talk about babies, do you shoot birth photography?

Absolutely!!!  Please contact me for more details.

Do you offer digital files?

Come on, this is the Silicon Valley, of course I provide digital files!

So, how much does all this cost?

Collections start between $650 and $1250 (digitals included), with most clients ultimately spending upwards of $1500.

Oh man, why is professional photography so expensive?

Check out this article to help you understand.

Do you offer Mini Sessions?

I do!  They are usually offered 1-2 times a year so join the MBP newsletter to be one of the first to know.

So, if you include digital files can I print on my own?

You may, that said, I do encourage you to print professionally simply because they do a better job than the rest. You will receive an image release to print where you wish after your session.  If you are going to print on your own, please ask me for recommended labs so that you prints come out the best they can possibly be.
