Quarantine Crafts: Try These Toilet Paper Crafts with Your Toddler

Updated: Sep 16

With the excess of empty toilet paper rolls now that everyone is at home in quarantine, why not make them into a fun craft? Who knew empty toilet paper rolls held so much entertainment value? They can keep your toddler occupied from anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour! While assembling images for this blog post, we actually completed 3 out of 4 of these activities in one morning. Nolan took a short break to put Silly Putty on his forehead. This went swimmingly until he realized his constantly growing hair was stuck in it!

Here are 4 ways you can transform your empty toilet paper rolls into arts and crafts projects for your toddler.

Paint with Toilet Tissue Rolls

One of the first exposures to art that most toddlers have is through painting. Paint can be a lot of fun for you and your toddler! There’s something about painting that frees your mind. We love using recycled material and painting with toilet tissue rolls is one way to do that. It’s so much fun!

Make an Easy Toilet Paper Roll Toy Rocket

Empty TP rolls can be turned into all sorts of crafts, from kaleidoscopes to rocket ships! With a little bit of time, glue, and colored paper, you’ll have a rocket ship you can be proud of. If you add some string to the cone, you can even hang it from a hook on the ceiling, or turn it into a party hat, like Nolan. His birthday is at the end of this month and he cannot stop talking about it!

Make a Kazoo Out of a Toilet Paper Roll

This old-school humming instrument is so easy to make. Hands-down, this was Nolan’s favorite activity. Tip: larger poked holes make for a more successful kazoo!

Cardboard Tube Sculptures

Turning trash into treasure is so much fun. I love the idea of showing Nolan that anything can be art, and I also love not spending money to make art! Free art experiences are amazing. Using empty toilet paper rolls to create a recycled sculpture is fun and easy.

While under stay-at-home orders, we’ve done so many toilet paper roll crafts. Try some with your kids and let me know which ones they love. If your children already have a favorite toilet paper roll craft that I haven’t listed here, please share it with me in the comments!
